Friends of Ruscombe Wood
Ruscombe Wood is a beautiful woodland located off Castle End Road in Ruscombe, often referred to as Bluebell Wood due to the stunning carpet of bluebells that bloom there each spring. The Friends of Ruscombe Wood, also known as ‘Forwood,’ were founded in 1992 when the wood’s owners, Twyford Orchards Trust, granted them a license for conservation management. This followed a public walk and meeting initiated by the BTCV (British Trust for Conservation Volunteers), now known as TCV (The Conservation Volunteers), who recognized the wood as an ideal location for restoring its traditional management to benefit both the local wildlife and the community.
In August 2022, the Friends of Ruscombe Wood became part of Econet.
The Friends of Ruscombe Wood organise monthly tasks, typically on the first Saturday of each month.
New volunteers are always welcome. There’s no need to commit to regular attendance – you can join tasks whenever you’re available, or even for part of a task. No experience is required, training will be provided and task leaders are always on hand to offer guidance as necessary, and tools and gloves will be supplied.
Volunteers under the age of 18 years can only participate in Econet activities if accompanied by an appropriate adult (parent, guardian, social worker, teacher, etc.) responsible for their wellbeing and behaviour.
If you’re interested in volunteering with Friends of Ruscombe Wood, please complete our registration form or contact Steve Loyd.
