Friends of McIlroy Park

McIlroy Park is situated on elevated ground at the junction of two Old Drover Roads, in what is now a residential area of Tilehurst, offering expansive views of Reading and the Thames Valley, as it has since pre-Norman times. The park features grassland surrounded by ancient mixed woodland, including elm, oak, hazel, beech, and large areas dominated by holly. Most parts of the woodland are steeply sloped. The site, along with Lousehill Copse on the other side of Norcut Road and Blundell’s Copse was designated a Local Nature Reserve in 1992.

The Friends of McIlroy Park organise tasks on the fourth Sunday of each month, excluding August and December.

New volunteers are always welcome. There’s no need to commit to regular attendance – you can join tasks whenever you’re available, or even for part of a task. No experience is required, training will be provided and task leaders are always on hand to offer guidance as necessary, and tools and gloves will be supplied.

Volunteers under the age of 18 years can only participate in Econet activities if accompanied by an appropriate adult (parent, guardian, social worker, teacher, etc.) responsible for their wellbeing and behaviour.

If you’re interested in volunteering with the Friends of McIlroy Park, please complete our registration form or contact Philip Allen.
