Econet Broad Hinton Copse

Located in Twyford, behind Colleton Primary School, Broad Hinton Copse is a predominantly deciduous woodland with oak, ash, hazel, yew, and some sycamore.

Econet Broad Hinton Copse was established in 2024 to support the local community to manage Broad Hinton Copse, by promoting native species, supporting wildlife, and ensuring this peaceful space remains enjoyable for generations to come.

The first task was held on Wednesday, 13th November 2024, when a new dead-hedge was constructed. Econet Broad Hinton Copse now meets on the third Saturday of each month.

Since 2024, we have been laying hedges using traditional methods and encouraging more hedgerow areas along the margins. A new hedge was planted using re-planted local native species in November 2025 and we are coppicing hazel within the woods to use as a sustainable source of fencing poles.

One of our aims is to improve the habitat for bats with advice from the Berks & South Bucks Bat Group, who led a survey in summer 2025. Repeat surveys of bats and also plants & trees are now part of our annual plan and we are continually updating our species list (see below). We’re also improving the habitat for many other different animal species including hedgehogs, birds and insects by creating hibernation areas, bird boxes and log piles.

New volunteers are always welcome. There’s no need to commit to regular attendance – you can join tasks whenever you’re available, or even for part of a task. No experience is required, training will be provided and task leaders are always on hand to offer guidance as necessary, and tools and gloves will be supplied.

Volunteers under the age of 18 years can only participate in Econet activities if accompanied by an appropriate adult (parent, guardian, social worker, teacher, etc.) responsible for their wellbeing and behaviour.

If you’re interested in volunteering with Econet Broad Hinton Copse, please complete our registration form or contact Mike Mahoney.
